Tri4Kids: Scott The Triathlete

Scott’s first triathlon was the first Tri4Kids last September. He was 12 years old and excited to do something completely new.

His mother Debbie says that he had always liked to run, but he had never done something in which he had to swim and bike and run and transition quickly from each one.

“The transition turned out to be his favorite part,” says Debbie. “For a kid his age, to do something challenging is great, but he loved having all the different challenges put together in one race. After the Tri4Kids, he did the Heart of the Valley Sprint Triathlon. After that, Scott was hooked.”

At age 13, Scott become a triathlete. He began training with his grandfather. He entered more triathlons and consistently placed high in his age group, sometimes competing against kids five or six years older than him. Training for and completing triathlons gave Scott more than just the experience of the race.

“Scott’s confidence has zoomed,” says Debbie. “He thinks that he can do anything now. He says he wants to complete an Iron Man by the time he is 18.”

Debbie says Scott enjoys improving his times after every race, working hard at training, and just getting better at something not many kids his age are doing.

“I’m very proud of him.”

The 2nd annual Tri4Kids will take place Saturday, August 24th at 9am. Parents can sign up their kids HERE.

All proceeds benefit the Boys and Girls Club.
