Spartan: Lisa & Miriam

Everyone in Spartan is getting results. Right now, we are going to focus on two ladies who take Spartan at 9:30 every Monday and Wednesday and Friday morning at Lancaster. Their names are Miriam Castillo and Lisa Walker. They walk in with smiles five minutes before Spartan begins. But when the music starts and the workout begins, the smiles transform and these ladies are ready to go to work.

There are two major advantages of working out in the kind of small-group atmosphere of Spartan. As a Trainer, I am able to motivate, coach, inform, encourage, and correct everyone who shows up to train hard and train well. That’s one big advantage. The other advantage of working out in a small group is that I get to know each participant personally and see their success first-hand. In small groups, accomplishment is just that much more meaningful.

For instance, I know that Miriam works hard in Spartan because of the energy it gives her. “I have a ton more energy now,” says Miriam. “I have energy for my family. I have energy for myself and the things I love to do. And it was combining Spartan with Nutrition that really got me the results I was looking for with my body comp.” In a few months, Miriam has dropped over 5% of her body fat and added 3 pounds of lean mass.

I have had the privilege to see Lisa improve not only her body composition (since March, Lisa has lost 3.5% body fat and gained 4.4 pounds of lean mass), but also improve her ability to move. (One of the big missions of Spartan is to make members better movers, more functional athletes, more energetic people who are able to go through life doing what they want, when they want, how they want.) Lisa Walker can do more push-ups with better form, deeper squats, higher jumps, smoother sprints, better curls, better extensions, better everything through the hard work she puts in in Spartan Training.

Both Miriam and Lisa are mothers. And it is important to both of them that they be examples of active living for their children. Miriam shared this with me recently: “When I go to do triathlons, my 5-year-old always does the kid’s version as well. They run through kiddy pools and bike through parking lots and jog through the finish line. It is so nice to share together. He’s collecting bib numbers and medals right along with me.”
