Diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma last summer, Courthouse West member Vickie Clarke was given a 61% chance of survival by her team of doctors. At the time of her diagnosis, she was told she would die within six months if she did not immediately start treatment.
While treatment has put Vickie into remission, it has not come without a cost. Vickie has lost half of her hearing, feeling on the right side of her face and a good portion of vision in her right eye. Despite these setbacks and the fact that her Melanoma remains incurable, Vickie maintains upbeat and is infectiously optimistic.
When asked what her resolution is for 2017, Vickie told us that she is living for the 39%. While her long-term prognosis may not be the best, she is determined to fight for her quality of life today. She is making choices for herself, like taking the time to utilize her membership at Courthouse and enjoying the small things in life. She says life is all about perspective. You will have days when you just want to wallow in a glass of wine, but you hope for the days when you drink that wine and say “hey, this tastes good.”
