There is a book in the lobby of every Courthouse called The Instrinsic Exercise Jay C. Kimiecik. In it, Kimiecik talks about how no one does anything just because it is good for them. We do not do things because we have to, we do them because we like to.
When you think of exercise, what do you think of? Is it something negative, or something that stands in the way of something else more fun? For many, exercise rests in the same column as Brushing Your Teeth and Folding Bath Towels. So, I say we stop talking about exercise. Let’s talk about movement.
Another point of Kimiecik’s book (which, again, is in the lobby of all of the Clubs…if you haven’t, you should grab a copy) is that we all love movement. We just have to find the type of movement that brings us the most happiness and the most fulfillment. In the Courthouse, the options for how to move are almost limitless and almost always involve the company of others.
Pick a Group Ex class you haven’t done yet. Then, go try it. If there is someone there you haven’t met, say hello. That thing some people called exercise, what we once considered a chore, might just move from the Oh-Do-I-Hafta Column and into the Fun File.
Move around. Try something new.
Not because you have to. But, because you want to.
