Living the Lifestyle: Clean Eating Challenge

I hit my goal of running/walking 30 miles in 20 days last month! BOOM!

I found that a quick run, followed by hill sprints, followed by a cup of coffee is a great recipe to get the blood pumping (I think that is an expression) before the day starts.

Huge thanks to everyone who made it out and joined me for a run or two. Next week I’m going to start tackling that soap box derby more aggressively- one lap around Bush Park followed by seven sprints up the soap box three times a week. Who is down to join me? Rain or shine. Lets do this. Let’s be great.

That isn’t my challenge for the month though. This month I’m focused on clean eating.

The two rules I’ll be living by for the month of October:

  1. No processed food.
  2. Prepare 90% of food at home.

The first rule eliminates a ton of terrible things we put in our body, such as soda, pizza, Rockstars, high fructose corn syrup, FAST FOOD, etc.

The second rule requires a focus on what CAN be eaten instead of what I’m not suppose to eat. Vegetables, fruits, nuts and proteins are all great and will work as the focal points for each meal.

So  far this month I’ve been doing great. I’ve found a lot of success eating the same thing every day. This week my meals have been super simple:

  • Eggs with pesto, tomatoes and spinach for breakfast.
  • Banana for snack
  • Chicken with carrots for lunch
  • Almonds and dried cranberries for snack
  • Ground turkey with tomatoes for dinner.

I’ll be chatting with Drew of Courthouse Nutrition for ideas on spicing things up a bit for next week. 🙂

Stay tuned!
