Imagine, Train, Do: David Lee

On Friday, Nutrition Coach Holly Orton told me that she had overheard a member talking to Marie Roth about a hike that he had just taken. Holly thought this hike sounded like something that needed to be shared. So she had this member, David Lee, share it with her. Holly shared it with me. I’m sharing it with you.

On August 12th, just one week before my 69th birthday, I successfully climbed and reached the summit of Three-Fingered Jack in the Central Cascade Mountains of Oregon. I participated as a member of a 12 person mountain climbing team of the Chemeketa Climbing Club. The climb consisted of a 5.2 mile approach hike along the Pacific Crest Trail, a 1-mile rock scramble and fixed rope climb to the summit at 7841 feet, as well as the down-climb and the hike back to the trailhead. The climb took 13 hours (5:30am to 6:30pm) and had an elevation gain of 3000 feet. I would not have been able to complete that climb except for the excellent training I have received in Group Power, Ride, and Core, which I take five days per week at Courthouse Lancaster. It was the strength, endurance, balance, and agility that I have developed in those classes that allowed me to even consider such an adventure at my age.

Very much worth sharing. Thanks, David. Nice job.
