Imagine, Train, Do: Janie Bockhahn

Two years ago, Janie Bockhahn was diagnosed with cancer. She says she had to go through a number of major surgeries. These surgeries left her immobile and tired.

“At 55-years-old, I didn’t even know I was living an upside down life,” Janie says. “I did not exercise and I didn’t have any real goals. I was existing, not living. Then a little thing called Courthouse Fitness entered my life. Along with it came some young people who obviously had life in them. I wanted some of that life, so I began to take note.”

Janie began working with Trainer Jorge Najar at the Lancaster Courthouse and signed up for Courthouse Nutrition. “With Nutrition, I found a new way to eat. As I saw Nutrition begin to change my body, I saw a glimmer of hope.” Since March of 2012, Janie has lost over 26 pounds of fat (44.5% body fat to 31.3%) and put on 3 pounds of lean mass. “If someone would have told me I could lose weight and be fit and still eat, I would have done this years ago.”

To Janie, the most important aspect of her improvement is her energy and what that energy allows to do.

“I took another step by signing up for personal training and, with the help of my trainer, that hope exploded into true possibilities.  I listened to him and tried my best to put the advice being offered into practice.  The pounds started falling off, my energy levels started rising, and I found myself feeling better than I had in many years.”

“I feel as young as I did when I first had kids,” Janie says. “I feel as though I went back twenty years and that I can do anything I want. Most importantly, I can do anything I want with my grandkids.”

For all of the improvements made in the past year, Janie is even more excited about her future. So, what does the future hold for Janie?

“Hopefully lots of hiking with my grandkids,” says Janie. “But, really, who knows what the future holds for me.”

When Janie says this, she does so with a sense of control and determination.

“The rocking chair days that had been in my near future have disappeared, never to return.”
